漢語字音中聲母、字調(diào)以外的部分。舊稱為韻。韻母又可以分成韻頭(介音)、韻腹(主要元音)、韻尾三部分。如“娘”niáng的韻母是iang，其中i是韻頭，a是韻腹，ng是韻尾。每個韻母一定有韻腹，韻頭和韻尾則可有可無。如“大”dà的韻母是a，a是韻腹，沒有韻頭、韻尾；“瓜”guā的韻母是ua，其中u是韻頭，a是韻腹，沒有韻尾；“刀”dāo的韻母是ao，其中a是韻腹，o是韻尾，沒有韻頭。
